Bang Krachao is known with the green lung of Bangkok. It’s an island with vast vegetation well preserved and had become a refuge for families on weekends. The perfect place to rent a bicycle and go exploring everything.
Bangkok is a busy city, sometimes even chaotic. When you feel that you had enough of buzz in Bangkok, is time to see another side of the city. It´s time to visit Bang Krachao, a unique attraction in Bangkok and still unknown for many travellers. I spent an entire Sunday on the island and it was amazing!
Most of Bangkok's guides talk about only of Lumpini Park, some still mention Rama IIIV Park, but almost none mention Bang Krachao. And that's another reason to visit the island. And the best thing is that you have the option to do a book a bike tour or rent a bike and cycle on your own just following the map. I did it and it's very easy.
HOW TO GET IN BANG KRACHAO
To get to Bang Krachao from The Yard Hostel you should take the BTS to Bang Na station (59 baht). When you get there, you have take a taxi (50 bath) or mototaxi (40 bath) to the pier Bang Na which sits along with the Wat Bang Na. Arriving at the pier, just cross by ferry (4 baht).
Arriving in Bang Krachao, as soon as you disembark, you will see bikes for rent for 50 baht per day. Choose yours and don’t forget to take a map of the island.
Also get your Google Maps ready in case you get lost. Even though it is a very easy island to ride a bike, with distances no longer than 5km from one point to the other. On the main road that runs Bang Krachao has traffic, so be careful.
I recommend going on the weekend when Bang Krachao's floating market happens. It’s not a floating market as Damnoen Saduak, there are only a few boats, but it sure is charming. It seems the perfect place for families as there are spaces for children to have direct contact with farm animals and still have a picnic.
Still talking about a picnic, the best place to relax is in Si Nakhon Khuen Park Khao Park which has a lake where you can cycle enjoying a little more of the green. Aldo don’t hesitate to stop and have some cold Thai tea in a charming café, grab some local food along the way and stop to visit temples.
If you really like Bang Krachao e feel you have to spend more time, I suggest you stay at Bangkok Tree House, a hipster and cozy hotel with many chilling options.
